At the Hotel La Cisterna of San Gimignano everything, truly everything, exudes the elegant warmth of hospitality. 

Beginning with the rooms—where the simplicity of detail allows space to absorb the cordial atmosphere and the fairytale-like panoramas of the nearby countryside.

Some rooms are classically furnished with wrought-iron beds and Florentine-style furnishings. Other rooms are renovated and furnished in a modern style with parquet flooring and wall decorations.

This is a story that begins in 1100 AD. and it winds its way for nine centuries marked by the attribute of True Hospitality.

In the fifteenth century, the nobleman Michele di Governuccio decided to donate the structure to the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala—the building that now is our hotel.

The hospital hosted travelers making their ways along Via Francigena in medieval times. In 1918, the brothers Gino and Arturo Salvestrini—perhaps inspired by that magical allure the building is famous for—built the Pensione Cisterna so that the property would remain a special beacon for travelers coming to Italy from all over the world.
